Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Nirmal Ghosh is being brought to West Bengal from Odisha after his arrest in connection with the RG Kar case, according to Anandabazar Patrika. His transfer follows a fresh FIR that prompted him to go into hiding in Odisha, the publication reports.

Celebrations broke out in Panihiti following the arrest, with BJP workers reportedly expressing joy. Meanwhile, Ghosh's family has alleged that the arrest is part of a "conspiracy," with his daughter claiming the chief minister's statement led to his detention, per Anandabazar Patrika.

The arrest comes amid a widening investigation into the RG Kar matter. In a related development, former councillor Sanjib Mukherjee has also been arrested, as reported by TheWall and News18 Bengali. According to News18 Bengali, Mukherjee's arrest followed a complaint from Abhaya's father.

Ghosh, a former TMC legislator, had reportedly gone into hiding in Odisha after the new FIR was filed. The sequence of events, as detailed by Anandabazar Patrika, suggests the fresh complaint was the trigger for his flight and subsequent capture.

The family's claim of political maneuvering adds a contested dimension to the case, though no evidence has been presented in the reports. The arrests signal that authorities are actively pursuing multiple individuals connected to the case.

Watch for further court proceedings and whether additional arrests follow in the coming days.
