Nigeria’s Accountant-General has told investigators that a forged letter from the State House was used to establish a fake government agency, Premium Times Nigeria reports.

The official made the claim during a probe into the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Implementation Committee (PFIPC). The Accountant-General stated that the forged document paved the way for the creation of the fraudulent body.

According to Premium Times Nigeria, the Accountant-General said the fake letter was used to give the appearance of official approval. The investigation is looking into how the PFIPC was set up without proper authorization.

The House of Representatives has ordered the Inspector General of Police to produce the disputed Director-General of the PFIPC, Adeniyi Adeyemi, within 48 hours, according to Channels Television and Punch Newspapers. The order came after lawmakers uncovered 29 forged documents linked to the fake agency, The Guardian Nigeria News reports.

TheCable reports that the Accountant-General accused Adeyemi of intercepting a letter from his office to the State House that could have exposed the PFIPC as illegitimate. The Accountant-General said Adeyemi hijacked the correspondence.

The probe continues as authorities seek to understand how the fake agency operated and who was responsible for the forgery. The police are now under pressure to produce Adeyemi for questioning.
