A large fire broke out in the historic centre of Delft on Thursday morning, in a café located close to the city's famous Nieuwe Kerk, according to AD.nl. Ten homes were evacuated as a precaution, NOS reported. De Telegraaf reported that the blaze has since been brought under control.
Omroep West reported earlier that there was a risk of the fire spreading to neighbouring buildings. De Gelderlander reported that firefighters regained control of the blaze, and that residents were taken in at a café while the response continued.
The affected area sits in Delft's historic inner city, near the Nieuwe Kerk, one of the city's best-known landmarks. The reports did not specify the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
What to watch next: whether authorities release details on the cause of the fire and on when evacuated residents can return to their homes.
