A fire erupted at an A2A waste treatment facility on the northern outskirts of Milan, according to MilanoToday. The blaze produced flames reaching five metres in height and a massive column of black smoke that was visible from a distance.

The incident occurred at a recycling plant in Novate Milanese, a municipality bordering Milan, as reported by Il Giorno and RaiNews. Local authorities advised residents to keep windows closed and limit the use of air conditioning due to the smoke, Il Giorno stated. Fire crews deployed 35 firefighters to the scene, according to la Repubblica, and one person was treated for smoke inhalation.

The facility is operated by A2A, an Italian multi-utility company that manages waste collection and treatment services in the Milan area. The fire broke out in a waste collection point, Il Post reported. The cause of the blaze has not been disclosed by officials at the time of reporting.
