The Federal Territories chapter of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) has announced plans to create 11 task forces ahead of the 16th general election (GE16), according to Free Malaysia Today.
The party’s leadership in the federal territory, which covers Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan, is preparing for the next national polls by organising these specialised teams, the outlet reported on Sunday.
Free Malaysia Today’s report did not specify the exact functions of each task force or the timeline for their formation. However, the move signals that PAS is intensifying its organisational groundwork in urban constituencies, where the party has historically faced stiffer competition compared to its strongholds in rural states.
The announcement comes as Malaysia’s political parties begin gearing up for GE16, though no official election date has been confirmed by the Election Commission. PAS, which currently leads the Perikatan Nasional coalition in several states, is expected to use these task forces to strengthen voter outreach, logistics, and candidate selection in the federal territories.

The task forces are likely to focus on areas such as youth engagement, social media campaigning, and grassroots networking, given the urban demographic of the region, though these details were not confirmed in the report.
Observers will be watching whether the 11 task forces translate into a stronger PAS presence in the federal territories, where the party won no parliamentary seats in the last general election. The effectiveness of these teams could shape the coalition’s strategy in the coming polls.
