Fairphone has launched a refreshed version of its Gen 6+ smartphone, featuring 12GB of RAM and a modestly upgraded processor, according to Dutch tech outlet Tweakers. The new model carries a price tag of €649.
Tweakers reports that the updated Gen 6+ is a direct successor to the existing Gen 6+ lineup, with the main changes being the increased memory and a slightly faster chipset. The outlet notes that the processor improvement is incremental rather than a major leap in performance.
The announcement follows a teaser posted by Fairphone, which Tweakers had earlier speculated pointed to a new Gen 6+ variant. Dutch news site NU also confirmed the release, describing it as a new version of the Gen 6+ with more storage capacity. Tech publication Bright highlighted the timing of the upgrade, noting that the additional RAM comes at a time when memory demands are rising.
The €649 price positions the refreshed Gen 6+ in the same bracket as the original model, suggesting Fairphone is aiming to offer better specs without a significant price increase. The company, based in the Netherlands, has built its reputation on modular, repairable designs, though the current report does not detail any changes to the device's repairability or sustainability features.
Fairphone has not yet disclosed full specifications beyond the RAM and processor details, nor has it confirmed availability dates for specific markets. The teaser and subsequent launch indicate the company is moving quickly to refresh its mid-range offering.
What to watch next: whether Fairphone will extend the 12GB RAM configuration to other models in its lineup, and how the updated Gen 6+ compares in real-world performance tests against its predecessor.
