Enlight Media (300251.SZ) said revenue attributable to its film "Eight Immortals!" reached an estimated range of 12.5 million yuan to 16 million yuan as of Oct 7, according to 金融界.
The Shenzhen-listed studio disclosed the figure in a filing, 金融界 reported on Thursday. The range covers operating revenue the company has recognized from the animated title through that date.
Coverage of the film points to a much larger theatrical performance. 东方财富 reported that "Eight Immortals!" has grossed more than 2 billion yuan at the box office. 茉莉花新闻网 put the figure at 1.985 billion yuan and said the film ranks third on China's all-time box office chart, adding that the top three domestic animated releases were all produced in Chengdu.
The gap between the two sets of numbers reflects the difference between a film's total box office and the share a single studio books as its own revenue, which depends on distribution arrangements and accounting timing. Enlight Media's disclosure covers only its own recognized revenue from the title.
The film's run has also drawn comparisons with another animated hit. 自贡网 framed the period as a contest between "Ne Zha" and "Eight Immortals!," asking which came out ahead.
Investors will watch whether Enlight Media issues further revenue updates as the film's theatrical run continues, and how the title's final tally compares with other recent animated releases.
