Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has called on African countries to strengthen trade among themselves and has opened the door to investment in Egypt by Nigeria's Dangote group, according to Dailynewsegypt.

The remarks, reported on Saturday, October 3, 2026, place intra-African commerce and cross-border investment at the center of Egypt's outreach to the continent. Dailynewsegypt reports that Al-Sisi also signaled Egypt's willingness to host Dangote investment.

In separate remarks carried by Egypt Today, Al-Sisi urged African states to cooperate for a better future and to address the fallout from global crises. The two themes — continental trade and shared responses to external economic pressure — ran through his message.

The push comes as the African Continental Free Trade Area shifts its attention toward investment and employment in the continent's automotive sector, according to Tech Review Africa. That focus on industrial investment and jobs overlaps with the kind of cross-border business interest Al-Sisi appeared to welcome.

Egypt has also been pursuing narrower investment ties. The State Information Service reported that Egypt, Algeria and India are exploring deeper cooperation on investment.

Alongside the economic diplomacy, Anadolu Ajansı reported that Egypt is set to host a four-way summit with Eritrea, Somalia and Sudan amid the conflict involving Ethiopia — a sign of Cairo's broader regional engagement.

What to watch next: whether Al-Sisi's opening to Dangote translates into concrete investment announcements, and how the AfCFTA's investment agenda advances.
