A drone detonated in the courtyard of a multi-storey apartment building in Shebekino, in Russia's Belgorod region, wounding a civilian man, according to the regional operational staff, as reported by Lenta News.
The man suffered blind shrapnel wounds to his thigh and was taken to the Shebekino central district hospital, the staff said in a statement posted on the Max platform.
The regional operational staff attributed the attack to Ukrainian forces. The report did not specify the time of the incident or give further details about the man's condition.
Why it matters
The strike is the latest in a series of drone attacks reported in the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine and has been repeatedly targeted since the start of the full-scale war. The incidents described by Russian officials and media in recent days have produced civilian casualties, including a fatality.
The reports also illustrate how the conflict's effects reach ordinary residential areas. In this case, the drone came down in a courtyard shared by residents of an apartment block, and the person hurt was described as a local civilian going about his day.
Coverage of the region has drawn attention beyond the attacks themselves. The new governor of the Belgorod region, Shuvalov, has faced questions about how openly he communicates with the public, after explaining why he does not report on social media in as much detail as his predecessor, according to Novaya Gazeta. That debate over official transparency runs alongside the steady stream of incident reports.
A pattern of strikes across the region
The Shebekino injury follows other reported drone incidents in Belgorod region within a short span. Earlier, in the Grayvoronsky district, a Ukrainian drone struck a man riding an electric scooter, inflicting fatal injuries, according to the same reporting.
Other outlets have described a broader wave of attacks. Interfax reported that one person was killed and another wounded in the Belgorod region as a result of drone strikes. Vedomosti reported that a woman died and seven people were injured in attacks on the region. Rosbalt, in a roundup of strikes on Belgorod, said dozens of drones attacked the border area and that there were casualties.
The accounts differ in their details and tallies, and the figures have not been independently verified. What they share is a picture of frequent, small-scale strikes hitting civilian settings — courtyards, streets and, in one case, a person on a scooter — rather than military installations alone.
Shebekino, a town close to the Ukrainian border, has been among the settlements most frequently mentioned in such reports over the course of the war. Its proximity to the front line means residents have little warning time and few protections beyond what local authorities can provide.
What to watch
Whether the injured man's condition is updated, and whether regional officials report further strikes in the coming days, will indicate whether this incident is part of a sustained increase in attacks on the border area.
