Multiple Nigerian news outlets report that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is at the centre of a political dispute over his alleged role in brokering a potential opposition ticket for the 2027 presidential election.
According to Punch Newspapers, Obasanjo's involvement in discussions between Labour Party candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has sparked a row. The Guardian Nigeria News quoted the Yoruba Ronu group accusing Obasanjo of undermining the opposition and working for President Bola Tinubu. ThisDayLive reported that Obasanjo's recent criticism of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar suggests he is covertly supporting Tinubu.
Leadership Newspapers cited a source saying Obasanjo directly brokered the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket. Daily Post Nigeria reported that Dele Momodu claimed Obasanjo favours Obi, but added that Atiku would become president if it is his destiny.

The reports indicate that Obasanjo's political manoeuvring has divided opposition camps ahead of the 2027 election. Some see his actions as an attempt to unify opposition forces, while others view them as a strategy to weaken challengers to Tinubu.
Observers will watch for any official confirmation from Obasanjo's office or the involved politicians regarding the reported alliance talks.
