Police in Depok, West Java, have officially named Saepul as a suspect in the murder and mutilation of a man he met through social media, according to detikNews. The suspect now faces the possibility of the death penalty under Indonesian law.

The victim, identified as Kunaefi, was reportedly killed at a rented property in the Pancoran Mas area of Depok. detikNews reports that Saepul and the victim had become acquainted through social media before the attack. The suspect is accused of dismembering the victim's body after the killing.

According to metrotvnews.com, investigators have stated that Saepul's motive was to take control of the victim's assets. SINDOnews Daerah also reported that the desire to possess the victim's property was the driving factor behind the crime.

In a separate report, Kompas.com detailed that Saepul vacated the rented house a week after the murder. The property owner reportedly did not suspect anything unusual at the time of the move. The suspect had been living in the kontrakan, or rented house, where the crime took place.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the brutal nature of the crime. Police have not yet released further details on how the suspect was apprehended or the timeline of the investigation leading to the formal suspect designation. The legal process will now determine whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty, which is the maximum punishment available under Indonesian law for premeditated murder.

As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to focus on the evidence linking Saepul to the crime and the full extent of the financial motive. The court proceedings will be closely watched as they unfold.
