Dang Yifei and Gu Zihao will contest the final of the Changqi Cup, Shangguan News reports. Both players have won two world championship titles, and each is aiming to add a trophy he has not yet claimed.
The matchup sets two of Chinese Go's leading competitors against each other, with the Changqi Cup title the prize at stake. According to Shangguan News, the final is a chance for either man to complete a gap in his record.
The report describes both as world-event "double champions," a status that underlines how much each has already achieved at the top level. What remains for them is this particular domestic crown, which neither has won.
The Changqi Cup is one of the established competitions on the Chinese Go calendar, and a final between two players of this caliber gives the event added weight. Shangguan News frames the encounter around that shared motivation: each player wants the one piece of silverware still missing from his collection.
Details of the schedule and format were not included in the report.
The next thing to watch is the result of the final itself, which will settle which of the two double champions finally fills in that gap — and which must wait for another chance.
