Corinthians and Cruzeiro will contest the 2026 Copa Libertadores Feminina final on Saturday (31) in Quito, UOL reports. The Conmebol has yet to confirm the kick-off time. Both Brazilian sides arrive at the decider after seasons marked by disruption rather than calm, and both have used the continental competition as a way to regroup.
According to UOL, Corinthians changed coaches during the year, had a quiet transfer window and dealt with payment problems. Cruzeiro, meanwhile, worked through a run of injuries and internal issues that disrupted its planning. The outlet describes the two clubs as having turned those difficulties into motivation for the title race.
Why it matters
The final sets up a meeting between the team long accustomed to dominating the continent and a first-time participant. UOL notes that Corinthians have been a regular presence at the top of South American women's football, while Cruzeiro are playing in the Libertadores Feminina for the first time. The match will therefore test whether the established hierarchy holds or whether a newcomer can interrupt it. Gazeta Esportiva framed the game as Cruzeiro challenging Corinthians' hegemony on the continent.
For both squads, the tournament has also served as a rallying point. UOL reports that the two teams, despite their different circumstances, found a shared objective in the Libertadores that brought their players together.
Corinthians: new coach, perfect record
Corinthians replaced Lucas Piccinato with Emily Lima at the helm and were inconsistent over the course of the season, according to UOL. The club has not won a trophy in 2026, finishing as runners-up in both the Brasileirão and the Supercopa do Brasil.
In the Libertadores, however, the Brabas have been flawless. UOL reports five wins from five matches, with 21 goals scored and two conceded. Their attacking depth has been a major asset, with Gabi Zanotti, Vic Albuquerque, Duda Sampaio, Andressa Alves and Belén Aquino among the options available.
In the quarter-finals, Corinthians beat Independiente Dragonas 5-0. They then met Santa Fe again in the semi-finals, having already faced the same opponent in the group stage, and came from behind to win 2-1, with Gi Fernandes scoring the decisive goal, UOL reports.
Cruzeiro: defensive solidity in a debut run
Cruzeiro's consistency has come from their collective organisation, according to UOL. The team, coached by Jonas Urias, had an uneven Brasileirão campaign that ended against Corinthians in the quarter-finals. In the Libertadores, the Cabulosas have won all five of their matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding just one.
UOL reports that Cruzeiro's run in their debut Libertadores has been built on a solid defence as well as the attacking contributions of Byanca Brasil and Marília. In the semi-final against Olimpia, a 1-0 victory demanded physical and emotional resilience, and Camila Rodrigues made a decisive save in stoppage time.
What to watch
