The Centre for Justice and Peace (CJP) has accused the Supreme Court of issuing an order that contradicts a government assurance, according to The Times of India. The CJP warned it would launch a fresh nationwide protest over the matter.

The Times of India reports that the CJP described the Supreme Court’s decision as “uninformed” and “unacceptable.” The group claims the order goes back on a promise the government had made regarding the filing of First Information Reports (FIRs). The CJP has not specified which case or assurance it is referring to.

This is not the first time the CJP has threatened mass action. According to The South First, the CJP previously warned of a nationwide protest over similar issues. Rediff adds that the CJP alleges the Centre is backtracking on its commitment to register FIRs.

The CJP’s statement comes amid ongoing tensions between the group and the government. The group has not yet announced a date for the proposed protest. Observers will watch for any response from the Supreme Court or the government.
