Christa Pike is awake following an execution attempt that did not succeed, according to Göteborgs-Posten. The Swedish newspaper reported the development on Tuesday, 6 October 2026.
The report gives no further details about where the attempt took place, how it was carried out, or why it failed. Göteborgs-Posten also did not say what condition Pike is in beyond stating that she is awake, or whether authorities have commented on the matter.
Pike is a death-row prisoner in the United States whose case has drawn attention for years. The headline and summary from Göteborgs-Posten are the only material available for this report, so other specifics of the incident cannot be confirmed here.
Failed executions have periodically prompted scrutiny of how states carry out capital punishment, though nothing in the material indicates what response, if any, this case has drawn.
What to watch next: whether Göteborgs-Posten or other outlets publish further reporting on Pike's condition and on any official statement about the failed attempt.
