Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met separately in Beijing on November 3 with officials from Thailand, Laos and Myanmar who were in China for the 11th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation foreign ministers' meeting, 新华网客户端 reports.
The visitors were Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh, and Myanmar's Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Aung Kyaw Ho, according to the report. The Thai minister was also on a working visit to China.
In his meeting with Sihasak, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said President Xi Jinping and King Vajiralongkorn have stayed in close contact in recent years, guiding the building of a China-Thailand community with a shared future. Wang said Beijing is ready to strengthen strategic communication and expand mutually beneficial cooperation with Thailand.
With Thongsavanh, Wang noted that in June, Xi and Lao party and state leader Thongloun Sisoulith jointly announced the building of an all-weather China-Laos community with a shared future for the new era. Wang said China will work with Laos to implement that agreement and help safeguard regional peace and stability.
In the meeting with Aung Kyaw Ho, Wang recalled Xi's important June meeting with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing during the latter's state visit to China, where the two sides agreed to speed up construction of a China-Myanmar community with a shared future. Wang said China supports political reconciliation in Myanmar and remains a strategic partner Myanmar can rely on.
The three meetings took place on the sidelines of the Lancang-Mekong gathering, a regional cooperation framework that brings together China and the countries along the river.
Watch for further readouts from the foreign ministers' meeting and any joint statements issued at its close.
