Chelsea have signed French defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, according to multiple reports including ESPN, Sky Sports, and the BBC. The 26-year-old centre-back has moved to Stamford Bridge for a fee of £52 million.

Lacroix joined Crystal Palace in 2024 from VfL Wolfsburg and quickly established himself as a key figure in the Eagles' defence. His performances attracted interest from Chelsea, who have been looking to strengthen their backline ahead of the new season. The deal was confirmed on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

According to ESPN, the transfer represents a significant investment by Chelsea as they continue to reshape their squad. Sky Sports reported that Lacroix expressed a desire to "write his Chelsea story" upon completing the move. The BBC also confirmed the £52 million fee, making Lacroix one of the more expensive defensive signings in the club's recent history.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, will need to adjust to life without their star defender. Yahoo News Singapore noted that Lacroix's departure raises questions about whether the Eagles are losing momentum in their squad development. The club had relied heavily on the Frenchman's composure and physicality at the back.

Lacroix is expected to compete for a starting spot alongside Chelsea's existing centre-backs as the club prepares for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
