Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has signed into law a measure creating “Pix Pensão,” a system for automatic pension and alimony payments, according to reports from G1 and Gazeta do Povo. The proposal was introduced by Congresswoman Tabata Amaral and has now been officially enacted, as detailed by the outlets on Friday.

The new law establishes a mechanism that allows pension payments to be processed automatically through the Pix instant payment platform. Gazeta do Povo reports that the system is designed to streamline how these financial obligations are fulfilled, reducing the need for manual transactions between parties.

According to Brasil de Fato, the law specifies who is eligible to use the automatic payment feature and outlines the process for requesting it. The system aims to provide a more reliable and efficient method for ensuring that pension and alimony payments are made on time, addressing a common issue in family law cases.

The signing of the Pix Pensão law coincides with other legislative actions by the administration. The Senado and R7 report that Lula also sanctioned a separate measure mandating the public disclosure of the Ligue 180 hotline, a channel for women experiencing domestic violence. This move is part of a broader government effort to strengthen support and communication for victims of domestic abuse.

The Pix Pensão law represents a technological update to Brazil’s payment infrastructure, applying the popular Pix system to legal financial obligations. This integration is expected to simplify compliance for those required to make payments and provide a clearer record of transactions.

Observers will now watch how the government implements the Pix Pensão system in practice, particularly the rollout of the request process for eligible users and how it integrates with existing family court procedures.
