Brazil's health regulator Anvisa has approved a pen that combines insulin and semaglutide in a single device for people with type 2 diabetes, folha.uol.com.br reports. The approval was announced on Monday, September 28, 2026.

The decision covers a treatment that pairs two medicines already used in diabetes care in one injectable pen, according to folha.uol.com.br. Other Brazilian outlets, including O Globo and CNN Brasil, also reported the approval, describing the product as a weekly option that brings insulin and semaglutide together.

Semaglutide is the active ingredient best known internationally under the brand name Ozempic, and VEJA framed the approval around what it changes for diabetes treatment. Folha's coverage notes the combined pen is aimed specifically at type 2 diabetes, the form in which the body does not use insulin properly.

In separate reporting, folha.uol.com.br said Eurofarma describes itself as the leader in Brazil's market for new semaglutide pens, even as additional products reach the market. That claim comes from the company and was reported by the outlet.

The approval adds a new format to a category where drugmakers have been competing over injectable diabetes and weight-management treatments. Combining insulin with semaglutide in one pen could simplify regimens for patients who currently use separate injections, though the reporting reviewed here does not include pricing, launch dates or clinical trial results.

What to watch next: whether the manufacturer sets a launch date and price in Brazil, and how the combined pen is positioned against existing semaglutide products already sold there.
