The Department of Health in the Bicol region has vaccinated 74 percent of its target child population against measles and rubella, according to a report from the Philippine News Agency. The figure covers children in the region who were eligible for the immunization campaign.
The update comes as similar vaccination drives are underway or wrapping up in other parts of the Philippines. The Philippine Information Agency reported that the Negros Island Region has concluded its own measles-rubella immunization effort, while a separate report from digicastnegros.com noted that more than 248,000 children in that region remain unvaccinated.
Other regions have also reported incomplete coverage. The Inquirer.net said the Calabarzon region's vaccination campaign has passed the halfway mark. Panay News reported that one region reached only 59.5 percent of its 408,114-child target, leaving roughly 165,000 children unvaccinated, which prompted the DOH to extend the drive there.
The vaccination push is part of a broader national effort to protect children against measles and rubella, both of which can cause serious complications. Health authorities have been working to close coverage gaps as campaigns continue across multiple regions.

The varying completion rates highlight the challenge of reaching every eligible child, particularly in areas where logistical or community-level barriers slow the pace of immunization.
What to watch next: Whether the DOH extends deadlines in other regions that have not yet met their coverage targets, and how final numbers compare once all campaigns conclude.
