Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has thrown his support behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming Osun State governorship election, describing the party as home to the country's finest citizens. Atiku made the remarks while attending the ADC's campaign finale in Osun State on Monday, according to channelstv.com.
The former presidential candidate's appearance underscores the growing significance of the ADC in the Osun race, with the party assembling a formidable political lineup. Reports from THISDAYLIVE indicate that the ADC has constituted a 73-member campaign council for the governorship poll, featuring prominent political figures including former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha, and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke.
The political weight behind the ADC has not gone unnoticed. According to TheCable, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has claimed that no other political party possesses the financial resources to purchase the ADC's support base in the state. This assertion points to the depth of grassroots backing the party has cultivated ahead of the election.
Atiku's endorsement adds another layer of momentum to the ADC's campaign efforts. Punch Newspapers published photographs of Atiku's arrival in Osun for the campaign finale, confirming the high-profile nature of the event.
The Osun governorship election comes amid broader national political maneuvering. In related developments, former Senate President David Mark has urged voters to protect their ballots, as reported by The Guardian Nigeria News. Mark's comments reflect concerns about electoral integrity that have become a recurring theme in Nigerian elections.
As the election date approaches, the ADC's coalition of experienced politicians and its claimed grassroots support position it as a significant contender. The coming days will reveal whether this alliance translates into electoral success in Osun State.
