Argentina has recorded more than one million influenza cases in 2026, the first time the country has crossed that threshold in ten years, according to Rosario3. The outlet reported the figure on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

The milestone comes as national surveillance data show flu activity at unusually high levels. Rosario3 described the case count as a record, and other Argentine outlets have reported similar trends in recent weeks. Diario Jornada reported that more than 990,000 influenza cases had been registered in the country so far this year, while La Arena reported record cases of flu and other viruses, noting that Santa Rosa was among the areas affected.

Argentina's National Epidemiological Bulletin, published by the government, provides the official weekly count. Its week 37 update was cited in the reporting. A separate summary of that bulletin, reported by ReconquistaHOY, said influenza cases were declining, that respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was the predominant virus among hospitalized patients, and that there was no local transmission of dengue.

The two pictures are not necessarily contradictory: a record cumulative total for the year can coexist with a falling weekly trend late in the season. The bulletin's week-by-week numbers are the clearest way to track which direction the outbreak is heading.

What to watch next: the next National Epidemiological Bulletin updates, which will show whether the weekly decline continues and how RSV and other respiratory viruses compare with influenza in hospitalizations.
