Andrea Pirlo is no longer in contention to become Italy’s next head coach, according to beIN SPORTS. The former midfielder’s candidacy collapsed following public backlash over a commercial partnership with a Russian betting brand.
The decision removes Pirlo from a search that has drawn widespread attention. Sky Sports reported that the controversy stemmed from a deal Pirlo signed with a Russian betting company, which prompted criticism from fans and officials. Pirlo himself described the arrangement as purely commercial, Punch Newspapers noted, but the outcry proved too strong for the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) to ignore.
FIGC president Gabriele Malagò has acknowledged receiving numerous messages about the coaching situation, according to Goal.com. He stated he would speak to all relevant parties soon, including former players Paolo Maldini and Leonardo, who have been linked to discussions. Meanwhile, Italian football legend Gianni Rivera told Football Italia that Pirlo was never the right fit for the role, expressing surprise that anyone considered him a viable candidate.

The search for a new Italy head coach continues, with no clear frontrunner emerging as of now.
