The political party Akbayan welcomed the Philippine Coast Guard's operations against Chinese vessels near Kota Island, The Manila Times reported on Wednesday.

The Coast Guard drove away a Chinese vessel along with 24 fishing boats in the area, according to BusinessWorld. The Manila Times carried Akbayan's statement praising the action.

Separately, the Philippine Coast Guard said it exposed a Chinese vessel using AIS spoofing near a Philippine cable corridor, the Philippine News Agency reported. The Coast Guard also deployed an aircraft and the BRP Teresa Magbanua to challenge a China Coast Guard vessel near Cabra Island, according to the Philippine Information Agency, which added that Philippine military monitors tracked PLA Navy warships in the vicinity.

Philstar reported that the Coast Guard repelled Chinese vessels again, framing the incidents as part of continuing maritime enforcement.

The reports describe a series of Coast Guard responses in different locations, with the Kota Island episode drawing political support at home. The accounts come from Philippine government news arms and domestic outlets, and the details published so far are limited to what those organizations have released.

What to watch next: whether the Coast Guard releases further details on the Kota Island operation and the AIS-spoofing incident, and how Chinese officials respond to the Philippine accounts.
