Nintendo's Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 remains sold out at major online retailers, but physical stores are expected to carry fresh stock on Thursday, Nov. 5, according to Mashable. Target has scheduled an in-store drop that day plus an online restock on Friday, Nov. 6, while select Best Buy locations plan midnight openings with walk-in units. GameStop has stopped taking online orders entirely, leaving in-store visits as the only route there.

The $520 console launched on Oct. 29 and does not include a pack-in game. Demand is being driven higher by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2, a ground-up remake of the 1998 title that also arrives Nov. 5 with modernized controls, an orchestrated soundtrack, revised dungeon puzzles and expanded Hyrule environments, Mashable reports.

Why it matters

The staggered release calendar has turned a hardware launch into a race. Buyers who want the themed system before the remake lands have been competing with automated accounts that Mashable says can clear website inventory in under 15 seconds. Walmart has also drawn attention for surprise order cancellations, and Amazon stock has disappeared within seconds of appearing.

Mashable describes the situation bluntly: digital storefronts look empty, but stock is still moving behind the scenes, mostly through unannounced micro-drops and store-level allocations.

What the special edition includes

The package pairs a black-and-gold Switch 2 chassis with themed Joy-Con 2 controllers and a dock bearing the gold Triforce emblem. The hardware keeps the platform's three play modes — TV, tabletop and handheld — and carries 256GB of internal storage that can be expanded with microSD Express cards. Mashable reports faster load times, a vivid handheld display and support for up to 4K output on compatible televisions when docked.

The magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers add mouse-style tracking in supported games, and a GameChat hub allows voice chat and screen sharing during play. The system also runs original Switch titles and supports standard multiplayer options.

Where buyers can still look

Nintendo's own store lists the console as out of stock, though shoppers can add it to a wishlist for restock alerts. Walmart is also out of stock, and Mashable advises turning on its in-stock email notifications. Target's two scheduled drops are the most concrete near-term opportunities, and Best Buy's midnight store events offer a walk-in alternative to online queues.

Mashable's guidance for those still hunting leans on preparation. Saving shipping and payment details in advance at each retailer avoids delays at checkout, and shoppers should confirm the seller is the retailer itself rather than a marketplace reseller charging above list price. At Best Buy, Mashable warns that refreshing the page during an online drop resets a shopper's place in the randomized queue. Walmart, meanwhile, has a pattern of reserving headline console drops for paid Walmart+ members during the first 30 to 60 minutes.

Physical stores are presented as the more dependable option, since bots claim website stock faster than most people can complete a purchase.

What to watch

Mashable notes that Walmart, Amazon and Best Buy often hold popular gaming hardware for Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions, but cautions that holiday restocks are the hardest to secure because they combine site crashes, gift shoppers and automated buyers. Its advice is to take a unit during the Nov. 5 store drops if one is available and treat Black Friday as a fallback rather than the primary plan.
