The Technical University of Kenya has advertised 25 vacancies across teaching and administrative roles, according to The Star, Kenya.

The Nairobi-based institution is looking to fill one senior lecturer post, 21 lecturer positions, two nursing roles and a chief internal auditor. The Star, Kenya reports that applications must be received by October 27 at 5pm.

The recruitment spans engineering, computing, health services and internal audit, drawing in professionals from several technical fields.

Why it matters

The advert lands at a time when Kenyan universities are competing for specialised academic staff, particularly in engineering and computing disciplines where industry demand is strong.

For TU-K, filling these posts could shape the depth of its teaching capacity in programmes tied to the country's technical skills pipeline. The two nursing vacancies and the audit role also point to the university's internal service needs beyond the classroom.

The university has framed the exercise as open to a broad pool of applicants, stating that it is an equal opportunity employer and inviting women, persons with disabilities and candidates from marginalised and minority communities to apply.

Where the teaching vacancies sit

The bulk of the openings are in engineering and computing, according to reporting by The Star, Kenya.

Within engineering, the university is seeking lecturers in structural and geotechnical engineering, transport and highway engineering, water and environmental engineering, power and energy, instrumentation and control, and telecommunications and information engineering.

There are also posts for specialists in aeronautical engineering, covering aircraft structures and avionics, alongside mechanical engineering roles focused on manufacturing and materials science.

Surveying and spatial sciences feature in the advert as well, with vacancies in geodetic science, hydrographic and engineering surveying, geospatial web development, topographic mapping and geovisualisation.

The computing and information technologies department is recruiting in computer networks and distributed systems, software engineering and systems design, multimedia technologies and interactive media, and artificial intelligence and intelligent systems.

A single senior lecturer position sits within computing and information technologies. Applicants for that role may hold any of the specialisations listed for the department's lecturer vacancies.

Administrative and audit roles

On the administrative side, TU-K has advertised a Nursing Officer Grade X and a Registered Nurse II Grade IX, both based in the University Health, Safety and Wellness Services department.

The university has also re-advertised the Chief Internal Auditor Grade XV post in its Audit and Systems Evaluations department.

According to The Star, Kenya, all positions except the chief internal auditor role will be offered on permanent and pensionable terms. The chief internal auditor will be engaged on a five-year contract that can be renewed once, subject to performance.

How to apply

Candidates are required to send soft-copy applications containing a detailed curriculum vitae, academic and professional certificates and other relevant testimonials to the email address given in the advert.

Hard-copy applications should be addressed to the Vice Chancellor, The Technical University of Kenya, P.O. Box 52428-00200, Nairobi, or delivered in person to the university's Human Resources office at Room L17.

Applicants must state the position they are seeking and quote the corresponding reference number on both the application letter and the envelope.

Full job descriptions and qualification requirements are available on the university's website, www.tukenya.ac.ke.

The deadline for submissions is October 27 at 5pm.

What happens next: shortlisting and interviews will follow the close of applications, and prospective candidates have roughly two weeks to prepare and submit their documents.
