Sony has opened preorders for a special Gran Turismo version of its PS5 controller, the DualSense Wireless – Gran Turismo Limited Edition, according to PCGH. The German outlet reports that the controller costs €84.99 and is scheduled to launch on 10 December 2026. Preorders began first through PlayStation Direct, Sony's own online store, with PCGH stating that Amazon, MediaMarkt and other retailers are expected to follow shortly.
The release is timed to mark three decades of Gran Turismo, the racing series Sony markets as "The Real Driving Simulator." As PCGH notes, the anniversary timing runs slightly ahead of the calendar: the original Gran Turismo arrived on the PS1 on 23 December 1997, so the full 30-year mark falls a little over a year from now.
Why it matters
Limited-edition PlayStation controllers have become a recurring test of how Sony's direct-to-consumer store shapes the market for collectible hardware. PCGH points out that PlayStation Direct is generally the most reliable place to find such editions, because stock at Amazon, MediaMarkt and similar retailers tends to sell out quickly. Some editions, the outlet adds, are offered only through PlayStation Direct and never reach general retail — and those are the ones that frequently resurface on eBay at sharply inflated prices.
That pattern makes the launch details worth watching for anyone who wants the controller at its listed price rather than a reseller markup. It also illustrates how anniversary merchandise tied to a long-running franchise can generate demand beyond the core game audience.
A motorsport-inspired design
According to PCGH, the special controller draws its look from racing: racing stripes, sporty graphic elements and a textured front panel styled after carbon fibre. The overall design is said to take cues from the appearance and performance of modern sports cars.
Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of Gran Turismo, commented on the milestone in remarks cited by PCGH. He said that thirty years ago the series began with the aim of sharing the beauty and joy of cars, and that the anniversary controller honours the path taken since. He also expressed deep gratitude to everyone whose passion continues to inspire the team.
PCGH notes that PS5 controllers also work with PCs, Macs, smartphones and tablets over Bluetooth, so the limited edition is not confined to console use.
GTA 6 editions back in stock
The same report flags availability changes for another pair of limited controllers tied to a major release. The GTA 6 Black Limited Edition, which PCGH says can only be preordered through PlayStation Direct, had been out of stock there but is now available to order again. The outlet reports that copies have been listed on eBay at prices reaching €250.
The GTA 6 White Limited Edition, meanwhile, was briefly sold through Amazon and MediaMarkt several weeks ago, according to PCGH. It is now available for preorder at its standard price only via PlayStation Direct.
PCGH cautions that prices and availability were checked before publication but can change at short notice, and that the terms shown by each seller are the ones that apply. The outlet also invites readers to report expired deals or errors by email.
For buyers, the practical takeaway from the report is straightforward: PlayStation Direct is the first place to check for limited PS5 controller editions, and it is sometimes the only place. With the Gran Turismo model not due until December, there is time to watch for wider retail listings — but based on how previous editions have behaved, waiting carries its own risk.
