LAUGHING SESSIONS

(Laugh Your Way To Victory)

Thursday, 1 October

TO THE BIBLE Psalm 2:4

“He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision.”

Kemi stared at the group chat notification and felt her stomach drop.

The message was short, but sharp: a screenshot of her unfinished project draft that someone had somehow gotten hold of, followed by three laughing emojis and the caption, “Some people really thought they were ready.” Within minutes the replies started stacking up. A few were neutral. Most were not.

She locked her phone and sat on the edge of her bed. The project was due in two days. The draft was rough on purpose she had planned to finish it tonight. Now it was public, and the tone in the chat made it clear that some people were enjoying the moment.

Her younger brother, Tobi, poked his head into the room. “You’re making that face again. The one where you look like you’re about to fight the whole internet.”

“I’m fine,” Kemi muttered.

“You’re not. You’ve been tense all week. First the group assignment drama, now this. You’re allowed to be mad.”

Kemi almost agreed. Then the verse she had read that morning surfaced again. *He who sits in the heavens shall laugh.* God wasn’t pacing the throne room, stressed about the schemes of the enemy. He laughed at them. And Proverbs said a merry heart was like medicine.

She looked at Tobi. “What if I don’t give them the reaction they want?”

Tobi raised an eyebrow. “You’re going to… ignore it?”

“No.” Kemi stood up, walked to her desk, and opened her notebook. “I’m going to do something that looks ridiculous first.”

She sat down, closed her eyes for a moment, and then quietly at first began to laugh. Not because the situation was funny. Not because the comments didn’t sting. But because she refused to let the pressure decide her joy. She was more than a conqueror. All things were working together for her good. The same God who laughed at the ranting of His enemies lived in her.

Tobi stared. “Okay… you’ve lost it.”

“Maybe,” Kemi said between breaths, still smiling. “But I’m not letting a group chat dry up my spirit. If God can laugh at the enemy’s tantrums, so can I.”

She kept at it. At first it felt forced. Then something shifted. The tightness in her chest loosened. The urge to fire back a defensive reply faded. In its place came clarity and the words she needed for the project started rising again.

By the time she opened her laptop, the chat notifications were still coming in. She didn’t open them.

She had a different session to finish.
