Rockstar Games intends to bring GTA 6 to PC in the first quarter of 2027, according to a report from GamesBeat cited by Estadão. The outlet reports that the window would close at the end of March, and that the information comes from four people in the games industry who know the studio's plans and spoke anonymously. Rockstar has not confirmed any PC date.
If that schedule holds, computer players would get the game roughly four months after it arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which Estadão reports is set for November 19, 2026. The gap would be far shorter than the one PC players waited through for GTA 5, which took about a year and seven months to make the same jump.
Why it matters
Rockstar has a long history of putting consoles first, so the question for PC players has never been whether the game would come, but when. A four-month turnaround would mark a notable change in how the studio sequences its releases, and it would put the PC audience much closer to the center of the launch conversation rather than at the end of it.
The timing also matters commercially. A shorter console-to-PC gap narrows the stretch in which players who own both a console and a capable computer have to decide which version to buy, and it reduces the odds that they buy the game twice. For a title of this scale, even a few months of overlap can shift how revenue lands across a fiscal year.
Estadão notes that the reported window remains unconfirmed by the company, which is standard for Rockstar. The studio has said nothing publicly about a PC version at all.
Other stories from the same news roundup
The same Checkpoint roundup carried several other items from the games industry.
Asha Sharma, the CEO of Xbox, said Microsoft has not abandoned its plans to build original intellectual property, even as the division restructured and leaned harder into its biggest franchises. Speaking at an internal meeting, Sharma said making original games remains important to the brand's future, according to accounts reported by Windows Central. "We won't survive if we only keep reviving the past," she said, per that reporting. She also argued for new franchises that can reach audiences the company's existing series do not, while Xbox works to turn its best-known titles into global brands.
The Entertainment Software Association, which represents video game companies in the United States, asked the American government to place handheld consoles loaded with thousands of pirated games on its Notorious Markets List. That annual report names services and outlets accused of enabling piracy and counterfeiting. The ESA described these devices as the equivalent of high-quality counterfeits in the games business, because they resemble legitimate products while shipping unauthorized copies of games already installed. The group argued that their ease of use widens access to piracy and can cut into sales of games, collections, subscriptions and official remasters.
Matt Radford, a former visual effects artist at Naughty Dog who worked on The Last of Us and Uncharted 4, raised concerns about what new technology means for how games get made. In an interview on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, he asked whether today's titles will one day be seen as handcrafted works from an era that will not come again. He compared the shift to the building of historic cathedrals, later replaced by more efficient modern methods. "And we'll be amazed, thinking: 'Wow, can you believe all of this was done by hand?'" he said. Radford did not name artificial intelligence directly, but he warned that new tools could change how many people work on a game and how production is organized.
Dan Houser, a co-founder of Rockstar and its former lead writer, said developing Bully was difficult because the team struggled to find gameplay that worked without GTA's usual ingredients, such as cars and weapons. In an interview with IGN, he said the team had doubts about the project, which is set in a school, until the pieces started to fit together. "Development was hard. The game was always in crisis," Houser said. He also described the challenge of launching a new property while the title drew negative attention, with the team facing criticism and protests before release as it tried to design activities, like classes and pranks between characters, that would make school life entertaining.
What to watch
The next firm signal would be an official Rockstar announcement on a PC version, or a shift in the console date itself, since the reported PC window depends entirely on the November 2026 launch holding.
