Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult are both competing for the role of James Bond, Nerikes Allehanda reports, citing Variety. The Swedish outlet said on Saturday that the two actors have each entered the contest to play the British spy.
The report gives no further detail on the stage of the casting process, who else may be in the running, or when a decision might be made. It also does not say whether either actor has met with the producers or tested for the part.
Both names are familiar to film audiences. Pattinson and Hoult have each built careers across studio and independent films, though the reporting does not discuss their individual credentials for the Bond role or any public statements from either actor about wanting it.
The Bond franchise has not named a new lead since Daniel Craig stepped away from the part, and speculation about his successor has circulated widely in the entertainment press. The Variety report, as summarized by Nerikes Allehanda, is the basis for the claim that Pattinson and Hoult are now among those in contention.
What to watch next: whether the studio or the franchise's producers confirm an official shortlist or a casting timeline.
