Pokémon GO's Wild Area 2026 will introduce several changes to how trainers present their profiles and join battles, according to details reported by Nintenderos. The Spanish outlet, citing confirmed information tied to the new Caminos Crepusculares season, says the updates cover companion Pokémon backgrounds, Dynamax battle entry options and ticketed special research with two distinct paths. The global Wild Area event runs Saturday 14 November to Sunday 15 November 2026, with in-person events in Sendai and Mexico City.

Why it matters

Wild Area has become one of Pokémon GO's flagship annual events, and the changes reported by Nintenderos touch several parts of the game at once: profile customisation, battle matchmaking, paid research and Pokémon HOME transfers. For ticketed players, the choice between a Steel path and a Dragon path makes the event less uniform, since the route taken determines which rewards and bonuses a trainer receives. The battle-room update also addresses a common friction point for players trying to organise Dynamax fights with friends rather than strangers.

Profile backgrounds and Dynamax battle options

Starting with Wild Area 2026, trainers will be able to display a location background or a special background for their buddy Pokémon on their Trainer profile, Nintenderos reports. The feature will roll out gradually, beginning with an initial set of backgrounds, and more special backgrounds are planned for later. Availability follows each player's local time, and friends will not see a trainer's buddy background until 10:00 in their own local time.

The Dynamax side of the event adds a choice at the point of entry. When entering a battle room, players can pick a "Battle" option to be matched automatically with other players, or a "Private Group" option to join an existing group by entering its group code. Nintenderos frames this as an update intended to make Dynamax battles easier to enjoy with friends during Wild Area and later events.

Steel or Dragon: the ticketed special research

Trainers holding a ticket for Wild Area: Global can take on a special research task with branching paths, allowing them to investigate either Steel-type or Dragon-type Pokémon. According to Nintenderos, the chosen path determines the rewards and bonuses received. The special research becomes available from Saturday 14 November 2026 at 10:00 local time, and tickets can be purchased through the Pokémon GO online store.

Players who take the Steel path receive bonuses upon earning the Autoridad en Acero badge, while those who choose Dragon receive bonuses tied to the Defensa Dracónica badge. These bonuses activate once the commemorative type badge is claimed in-game and end when the global Wild Area event concludes on Sunday 15 November 2026 at 18:00 local time. Ticket holders attending the in-person events in Sendai and Mexico City can obtain badges for both types during the on-site special research, and their bonuses will last until the global event finishes.

Free and deluxe passes, avatar items and HOME transfers

All players can earn the purple Wild Area 2026 t-shirt through the free GO Pass: Hacia lo silvestre, Nintenderos reports. Those who upgrade to the paid GO Pass deluxe can obtain Duraludon trousers as a progression reward. Both passes are available from Monday 9 November at 10:00 until Sunday 15 November at 18:00 local time, with a deadline of Tuesday 17 November at 23:59 local time to claim avatar items and other pass rewards. Additional avatar items will go on sale in the in-game shop during the event and will remain available afterwards.

Separately, the reporting notes an update to Pokémon HOME transfers: Pokémon caught with Safari GO Balls can now be sent to Pokémon HOME, where those balls appear as Strange Balls. Starting with the En plena naturaleza event, certain Adventure Effects can also be activated from the waiting room of Raids and Max Battles — specifically Zacian's Supreme Sword and Zamazenta's Supreme Bash — to give a group an edge before a Max Battle begins. Ticket holders for the Sendai and Mexico City events will get access to this feature ahead of other players.

Event add-ons remain on offer for trainers who want to expand their Wild Area experience, including boosted event bonuses, extra days of play and reserved event items. According to Nintenderos, these add-ons are active from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November 2026.

Watch for the full background list and any further Wild Area announcements as the 14 November start date approaches; Nintenderos notes that upcoming events remain subject to change.
