Magic: The Gathering has revealed the decklists for its Star Trek Commander decks, bringing Captain Picard, Spock, Worf and the Borg Queen into the trading card game. According to Magic: The Gathering, each deck draws from across the Star Trek franchise and contains 32 cards new to Magic. The decks, along with Collector's Edition versions, release on November 13, 2026, and are available for preorder now through local game stores, TCGplayer, Amazon and other retailers that sell Magic products.

The publisher says the set includes a card for each fan's favored character, episode and starship. Full decklists for the revealed Commander decks are available, and the complete set can be browsed in the Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek Card Image Gallery once it has been fully revealed.

Why it matters

Commander is one of Magic's most popular ways to play, and crossovers with established entertainment franchises have become a recurring part of the game's release schedule. A Star Trek collaboration carries particular weight because the franchise's characters and ships are so widely recognized, giving the set appeal beyond existing Magic players.

The 32 new-to-Magic cards per deck also matter for the game itself. New cards can shift how Commander decks are built and give longtime players fresh options, while the Star Trek theme gives newcomers a familiar entry point. According to Magic: The Gathering, the decks are designed to interest even veteran players.

The Borg Queen leads an assimilation-focused deck

One of the revealed decks, titled We Are the Borg, is built around the Borg Queen. According to Magic: The Gathering, she boosts artifact creatures and takes creatures from opponents' graveyards, transforming them into Borg creatures that can then be turned into further advantages. Locutus of Borg is also included to help grow the player's forces.

The publisher frames the deck around the Borg's familiar threat: the collective has arrived, and the deck's strategy is to assimilate opposing creatures rather than simply destroy them. Magic: The Gathering says that after a few turns, a player using the deck should have enough Borg creatures to overwhelm the Federation.

The full card list for We Are the Borg, along with the deck's tokens, can be viewed in the Card Image Gallery.

Collector's Edition decks use surge foil throughout

Players who want a premium version can pick up Collector's Edition Commander decks. According to Magic: The Gathering, these contain the same ready-to-play deck, but every card is printed in surge foil, giving the whole deck a reflective finish.

The publisher has not yet detailed the contents of every Commander deck in the set. Magic: The Gathering says it will reveal the contents of one deck in the future and directs players to the Card Image Gallery for the latest reveals.

Coverage of the set has also come from other outlets. VICE reported that Magic: The Gathering announced four new Commander decks featuring borderless commander cards. MTG Rocks reported that the Star Trek spoilers include a seductive trigger-doubling card described as a staple and one of the best mana dorks in Commander. ICv2 reported that Beadle & Grimm's will release a Magic: The Gathering – Star Trek token set.

Magic: The Gathering also published its MTG Arena announcements for October 26, 2026, the same day the decklists went live.

What to watch

With the November 13 release date set and preorders open, the remaining question is which cards in the other decks will shape Commander play. Magic: The Gathering has said more deck contents will be revealed before launch, and the Card Image Gallery will track each new card as it is shown.
