The conference room felt smaller than it looked.
Elena sat with her parents on one side of the table. Jordan, Sofia, and Malik sat just behind them. Across from them were the principal, a guidance counsellor, the student who had filed the complaint, and that student’s parent. The atmosphere was polite but heavy—the kind of room where people speak carefully and every word feels measured.
The complaint was read aloud: concerns about “exclusive religious activity,” “pressure on other students,” and “disruption of the school environment.” The student who filed it kept their eyes down. The parent spoke about wanting a neutral space for everyone.
Elena felt the old familiar pull toward fear and self-protection. For a moment it seemed as if the room itself operated by a different set of rules—caution, accusation, and the need to defend.
Then she remembered the day’s TeeVo.

Elena sat up slightly. She did not deny the seriousness of the meeting, but she refused to let the atmosphere of the room dictate the atmosphere in her spirit. She was not in the realm of death, accusation, or defeat. She had already been transferred.
When it was her turn to speak, she did not argue or attack. She simply explained, calmly and clearly, what their group had actually been doing: living by the Word, treating people with respect, and creating space for honest conversation. She acknowledged that not everyone would agree with their beliefs, but insisted they had not forced anyone.
A quiet student who had been sitting near the back—someone Elena had barely noticed before—asked to speak. To everyone’s surprise, the student said the lunchtime discussions and the group’s general attitude had actually helped them feel less alone and less pressured to pretend. The testimony was simple and unexpected.
The temperature in the room shifted.
The principal listened carefully, then decided there would be no disciplinary action. Boundaries around school-time expression would be clarified, but the lunchtime discussion slot could continue under basic guidelines. The meeting ended without the explosion many had feared.
Walking out of the office, Jordan shook his head. “That could have gone so differently.”
Elena nodded. “We were sitting in the same room… but we weren’t functioning in the same realm.”
Later the four of them gathered briefly outside. They declared the truth together: they had passed from death to life. Fear, accusation, and the expectation of defeat no longer had authority over them. They were living in a different realm—one where life and peace governed.
The complaint had been real. The tension had been real. But the realm they lived in was higher, and it had shown in how the day unfolded.
