Kenya's handling of its Ebola outbreak has drawn commendation from the Africa CDC, according to The Standard Media Group, as the country moves closer to being declared free of the virus. The Star, Kenya reports that the response strategy has won praise, while Daily Nation says only one Ebola patient remains as Kenya awaits outbreak clearance.
The picture has improved steadily in recent days. Seymoure Tribune reported that five Ebola patients were released after testing negative, with two still hospitalized at that stage. According to Kenyans.co.ke, a sixth patient has since recovered, and the Ministry has indicated when Kenya could be declared Ebola-free.
Against that progress, the World Health Organization has flagged continuing risks in the wider region. The WHO warns that late detection, deaths occurring outside health facilities and sustained transmission in the Democratic Republic of Congo remain serious concerns.
Kenya's model is being held up as an example even as the regional situation stays fragile. The remaining patient's recovery and the formal clearance announcement are the next milestones to watch.
