Hundreds of people lined up outside Nordstan in Gothenburg during the night leading into Thursday to get their hands on the new edition of the game "Zelda: Ocarina of Time," Göteborgs-Posten reports.
At the front of the queue stood Sebastian Bruun, who has taken the rest of the week off work so he can spend a large amount of time playing.
Another fan, Max Rostov, told Norrtelje Tidning after two hours of waiting that the experience was uncomfortable but ultimately worthwhile. "It sucks to wait, but if you get through the pain, I think the reward is worth it," he said, according to the paper.
The turnout was not limited to Gothenburg. Norrtelje Tidning also published footage of Zelda fans queuing ahead of the midnight release, and Göteborgs-Posten reported that hundreds joined the line.
Coverage of the launch has been enthusiastic. MovieZine described the 1998 classic as making a remarkable comeback, noting a score of 96 on Metacritic and asking whether it is the year's best game. FZ.se, meanwhile, ran a quiz testing readers on four decades of Zelda without help from Navi.
The reports do not specify how many copies were sold or how long the queues lasted beyond the accounts given by those waiting.
What to watch next: whether the strong reception reflected in review scores translates into sales figures for the re-release.
