The publication of this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examination results has been postponed by two days and will now take place on Saturday, October 31. The decision was announced on Tuesday afternoon by Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and of the Dhaka Education Board, according to bdnews24.com.

Speaking to bdnews24.com, Professor Akhtaruzzaman said the board committee chose the new date so that no questions would be raised about the results.

The change follows an earlier announcement. Last Saturday, a press release from the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee had named October 29 as the day the results would be published.

Why it matters

For students and their families, the two-day slip means a slightly longer wait at the end of a school year that has already been unusual. Results day is a fixed point that many candidates plan around, and even a short delay can affect admission timelines, family arrangements and the mood in households across the country.

The postponement also points to the scale of this year's exercise. The HSC and its equivalents are among the largest public examinations in Bangladesh, and any change to the schedule is felt across all the boards involved.

A year of common question papers

This year's examinations were held on shared question papers across nine general education boards as well as the madrasa and technical education boards. Running a single set of papers across so many boards places the whole process on one timetable, which makes coordination between them central to getting results out on time.

According to bdnews24.com, examinations in some districts under several boards were held later than scheduled because of adverse weather. That disruption is part of the background to this year's result timeline, though the committee chairman tied the delay specifically to ensuring confidence in the results themselves.

What the committee said

The announcement came from the coordination committee that brings the boards together, and the chairman framed the decision as a precaution. In his account to bdnews24.com, the aim was to avoid any doubt being cast on the results once they are released.

The committee had already communicated a date to the public through a press release the previous Saturday. The revision, confirmed on Tuesday, replaces that earlier date with the last day of October.

What to watch

Candidates and their families should now expect results on Saturday, October 31, rather than October 29. Any further change would be expected to come through the same committee, which has handled both the original announcement and this revision.
