Hoyoverse has confirmed that Petit Planet, its upcoming gentle life-simulation game set in space, will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, according to IGN. The studio behind Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail shared the news as part of a fresh update on the project.

Before that console release, the free-to-play title is scheduled to launch on PC, iOS and Android on December 4, 2026. IGN reports that the Switch 2 version will follow the following year.

The announcement came through a dedicated Petit Planet update from Hoyoverse, which paired the platform news with a closer look at how the game actually plays.

Why it matters

Hoyoverse has built its reputation on large, systems-heavy RPGs with ongoing content cycles. Petit Planet marks a shift toward a slower, more relaxed kind of experience, and the decision to bring it to Nintendo's hardware fits that direction. The Switch audience has become closely associated with calm, low-pressure games, so a 2027 arrival on Switch 2 gives the title a natural second home beyond PC and phones.

The timing also matters for the platform itself. A commitment from a studio of Hoyoverse's size, announced well ahead of release, signals continued third-party interest in Switch 2 as the console builds out its library.

What the update revealed about life in Starsea

According to IGN, the update expanded on several elements players will encounter in Petit Planet. The game is built around caring for a planet of your own, which serves as the starting point of the experience.

From there, players can travel to small islands that float in the sky around Starsea, the game's setting. The Galactic Bazaar hub is another destination, offering activities such as in-game auctions alongside features built around community interaction.

The update also detailed some of the neighbors players will meet as they go about daily life in the game, along with home decoration features and a selection of mini-games. IGN notes that these systems sit alongside the core loop of living out a quieter existence in the Starsea world.

Hoyoverse did not attach a specific date to the Switch 2 version beyond the 2027 window.

A crowded but distinct lane for Hoyoverse

Petit Planet sits at some distance from the studio's established output. Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are both built on character collection, combat and long-running narrative arcs. Petit Planet, by contrast, is described as a life simulation, with decorating, social spaces and small diversions forming its backbone.

That positioning places it in a genre that has grown steadily more visible on Nintendo platforms, where gentle simulation and customization games have found loyal audiences. The free-to-play model on PC and mobile also means the game will reach players before the console version exists, giving Hoyoverse a window to gather feedback and build a community ahead of the Switch 2 launch.

The studio has not said whether the Switch 2 edition will differ in content or structure from the versions arriving in December 2026.

What to watch

The December 4, 2026 launch on PC, iOS and Android will be the first real test of how Petit Planet's mix of planet care, sky islands, bazaar trading and mini-games comes together. For Switch 2 owners, the date to keep in mind is simply 2027, with Hoyoverse expected to narrow that window as the console version gets closer.
