Heidi Klum marked Halloween this year by dressing as a severed human hand, sharing images of the bloodied costume online before hosting her annual party on Saturday night, according to The Independent. The German-American model built the look around a single visual joke, and her captions leaned on a string of puns about hands.

She was not alone in making an effort. The Independent reports that a long list of celebrities posted elaborate costumes over the weekend, drawing on fictional characters, film villains and real-life figures.

Why it matters

Klum's Halloween party has become a fixture on the celebrity calendar, and her costume is usually the most discussed of the night. This year's choice kept that pattern: several outlets, including Forbes, The New York Times, Vogue and Variety, covered the severed-hand look, with more than one headline playing on the idea of giving her a round of applause.

The wider turnout also shows how much of the holiday now plays out on social media. Costumes are revealed in photo sets and videos posted by the celebrities themselves, and the reactions follow within hours.

Film characters and a Halle Berry tribute

Zendaya recreated Halle Berry's outfit from the New York premiere of X-Men in 2000, wearing a patterned bikini top with matching low-rise trousers, The Independent reports. The look was a direct reference to a specific red-carpet moment rather than a general character costume.

Cara Delevingne honoured Tim Curry, who died in August at the age of 80, by dressing as Dr Frank 'N' Furter, his character in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Kim Kardashian and her husband, musician Travis Barker, took on the central couple from the 1983 film Scarface. The pair posed as Tony Montana and Elvira Hancock in a themed shoot, wearing wigs and standing beside a vintage convertible.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber also dressed as a pair. The singer wore an all-red outfit with a beanie and face mask as a devil, while Hailey went as an angel in a white cropped jacket and fluffy bikini top, finished with black hot pants, wings and a halo.

Jade Thirlwall, formerly of Little Mix, covered herself in marbled grey textures to appear as a gargoyle statue. Rapper Tyga dressed as Jack Skellington from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Lookalikes, couples and a "Temu version"

Maya Jama posted photos of herself dressed as Sir Mo Farah, the Olympic champion. The Independent reports that the 32-year-old presenter, recently seen in The Celebrity Traitors, wore a bald cap and a false goatee, and completed the costume with what she described as Sir Mo's actual Olympic outfit and real medals.

Holly Willoughby, formerly of This Morning, shared a ghoulish look with red eyes and a bonnet. Georgia Tennant, wife of actor David Tennant, dressed as Claudia Winkleman, the host of The Traitors.

Stacey Solomon and her husband, actor Joe Swash, restaged a scene from the 1990s romantic comedy Pretty Woman, and described their attempt as the "Temu version" of the film.

Olivia Attwood, formerly of Love Island, and her boyfriend, TV presenter Pete Wicks, wore matching costumes as the Joker and Harley Quinn. Irish singer CMAT posted a video of her transformation into Sir Elton John, complete with a fluffy white outfit, a receding blonde wig, a gold tooth and the singer's tinted sunglasses.

Perrie Edwards, also a former member of Little Mix, called her costume "Cruella De Mum", dressing as the 101 Dalmatians villain in a fur coat over a black minidress with red gloves and boots. Her two young children, whom she shares with footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, appeared in the photo dressed as Dalmatian puppies.

Klum's party and the posts around it are likely to keep circulating through the week as outlets round up their favourite looks.
