The actors behind three of Grand Theft Auto 5's leads, along with the voice of San Andreas protagonist CJ, were asked at MCM Comic Con what guidance they would give the performers playing Jason and Lucia in GTA 6, according to IGN. Their answers, given in an interview with All Out Gaming, came as the long wait for the game nears its end, with release set for 19 November after 13 years. The identities of the two actors playing GTA 6's leads have not been revealed.
Why it matters
Rockstar's audience is unusually large and unusually devoted, and the people who have already been through it know what that attention feels like from the inside. The advice from the earlier cast is less about craft than about endurance: enjoy the moment, follow the studio's direction, and expect the experience to run for years rather than weeks. For two performers who have so far stayed out of the public eye, that is a useful warning about the scale of what is coming.
What the veterans said
Young Maylay, who voiced CJ in San Andreas, kept his message brief. His advice was simply to enjoy it, IGN reports.
Shawn Fonteno, who played Franklin in GTA 5, was more detailed. He told the incoming pair to listen to what Rockstar tells them, describing the studio as a guide toward the right path. He also said they should be ready, adding that this was all he could say on the matter and repeating that preparation was essential, because what lies ahead is a journey that will last a long time.
The panel also included the actors who played Michael and Trevor in GTA 5, though IGN's account focuses on the remarks from Young Maylay and Fonteno.
A fanbase that passes between generations
Young Maylay went on to describe how GTA games build loyal audiences that carry across age groups. He said the actors will always remain the characters they played, while a newer generation of players will have its own characters to identify with.
He illustrated the point with his own experience. His audience, he said, now includes the game's original fans, and people of many ages approach him — sometimes young, sometimes men with greying hair — to tell him he is CJ. The GTA 5 cast, by contrast, currently has a younger following, and he suggested that over time those performers will grow alongside their audience. The relationship, in his view, does not end when the credits roll.
What to watch
Rockstar has not announced who is playing Jason and Lucia. With the 19 November release approaching, the studio's own marketing — and the actors' first public appearances — will be where that answer surfaces.
