REST IN HIS LOVE
(He’s Not Looking To Condemn You)
Tuesday, 22 September
TO THE BIBLE – 1 John 4:16
“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love…”
The declaration from the day before had settled something, but it had also stirred an unexpected reaction in Jordan.
By Tuesday afternoon he was quieter than usual. After the final bell he waited for Maya near the gates, hands pushed deep into his pockets.
“I’ve been thinking about everything we’ve been doing,” he said once they started walking. “The stand we took, the words we’ve spoken, the way we keep choosing the Word over the pressure. Most of it feels right. But there’s this other voice that keeps showing up—especially when I remember how I used to handle things. How quick I was to get angry or shut down. Part of me still feels like I should be further along by now. Like God is probably tired of the slow progress.”
Maya glanced at him. The residual tension with Tyler’s circle still existed in the background, but this pressure was different. It was internal.
“That’s not how He works,” she said. “We’ve been learning to let God arise, to carry the Kingdom, to act like we’ve already received. None of that is based on us being perfect first. God isn’t looking at the weak moments and deciding whether we’re still worth the investment. He’s not trying to condemn us.”
Jordan kicked a small stone along the path. “It still feels like there should be a penalty for how long it took me to change. Or for the days I almost slid back.”
“Imagine a master artist who spends years on a painting,” Maya replied. “If a speck of dust lands on it, does he destroy the whole thing? No. He brushes it off because the value of what he made is greater than the flaw. That’s how the Father sees us. Even when we mess up or feel far from Him, He’s not standing there with a list of failures. He’s saying, ‘Rest in My love.’ All we have to do is receive the forgiveness and keep walking.”
She stopped at the corner where they usually parted. “The prodigal son’s father didn’t lecture him at the gate. He celebrated the return. Confidence in God’s love grows the more time we spend with Him—not the more we punish ourselves. Nothing, not even our slow stretches, gets to separate us from that love.”
Jordan was silent for a long moment. The usual afternoon noise of students leaving campus filled the space around them. Somewhere behind them, laughter rose from a group that included a couple of Tyler’s friends. The social undercurrent was still present, but it no longer felt like the main story.
Finally he exhaled. “So the next time that accusing voice shows up, I don’t argue with it or agree with it. I just rest.”
Maya nodded. “Exactly. He’s not mad. He’s not waiting to condemn. He’s waiting with open arms. We rest in His love—and then we keep moving forward from there.”
They parted ways with less weight than either of them had carried at the start of the day. The external pressure had not fully vanished. The internal accusations had not been permanently silenced.
But both of them had been reminded of the safer ground beneath every other lesson they had learned:
God’s love was not the reward for perfect progress.
It was the place they were allowed to rest while they continued to grow.

If guilt or shame whispers today, stop and say out loud: “He’s not mad at me. He’s waiting with open arms. I rest in His love.”
