BE EXCELLENT
(Stand Out from the Crowd)

TO THE BIBLE: Daniel 6:3
“Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.”
The competition preparation had entered a sharper phase.
Kemi’s notes were organised. The weaker sections were improving. Yet as she reviewed her work that morning, she realised there was still a difference between doing enough and doing it with excellence. Some students were aiming only to pass the preliminary stage. Others were already cutting corners.
At break Tobi found her reworking a section she had already completed once.
“You’re going over it again?” he asked. “It was already solid.”

“Solid is not the same as excellent,” Kemi said. “Daniel distinguished himself because an excellent spirit was in him. That same Spirit lives in me. Excellence is not something I’m waiting for God to give me later. It’s already inside. My part is to recognise it and express it in my studies, in how I help others, in the way I show up for every assignment.”
She closed the notebook briefly.
“Excellence means more than good grades. It means going beyond the ordinary. Standing out from the crowd. Leaving a mark. Laziness and mediocrity are not consistent with the Spirit of excellence. I refuse to loaf through this. I’m choosing to improve my mind, study properly, and go the extra mile not to impress people, but because the Spirit in me produces excellence.”
Tobi nodded slowly. “So today’s standard is higher than ‘good enough.’”
“Exactly,” Kemi said. “I don’t have to pray for an excellent spirit. I already have one. I’m going to express it.”
That afternoon she applied it practically. She refined one of her competition responses until the structure was clearer and the reasoning tighter. Then she helped another student organise their points with the same level of care she was giving her own work not rushing, not settling for average. A classmate who watched the exchange later said, “You do things differently.”
On the way home Tobi glanced at her.

“People are noticing.”
Kemi adjusted her bag. “That’s what happens when you stop blending into mediocrity. The excellent spirit in me is meant to be seen in school, in how I serve, in everything I set my hands to. I’m not aiming to be average. I’m standing out from the crowd.”
The competition still required focus. The days still held pressure. But the standard she was living by had risen again.
Excellence was already in her.
And she was choosing to express it.
