Education advocacy group Eduwatch has urged a nationwide audit of sexual misconduct in Ghana's secondary schools, according to Modern Ghana. The call was reported on Saturday, 17 October 2026.

The appeal comes as several other voices in Ghana push for scrutiny of abuse cases in schools and public life. GhanaWeb reports that Akosua Manu has questioned what she described as a selective response by the Gender Minister to such cases. Separately, Asaase Radio reports that the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is asking for an impartial investigation into alleged sexual abuse at Obuasi Senior High Technical School.

The issue has also reached party politics. According to 3News, the opposition National Democratic Congress' Director of Elections has defended Zakaria Abdulai's bid for the Juaben chairmanship despite sexual assault allegations against him.

Beyond investigations, there are calls for prevention. Adomonline.com reports that a gender advocate wants consent and sexual boundaries taught from pre-school onward as a way to stop abuse before it happens.

The material reviewed does not specify the scope, timeline or mandate of the audit Eduwatch is proposing, nor which body would carry it out. Modern Ghana's report gives no further detail on the cases that prompted the call.

What to watch next: whether education authorities respond to Eduwatch's request and how the Obuasi SHTS investigation proceeds.
