Cyberpunk 2077's Update 2.5 went live on 22 October 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it does two things players have asked about for years: it opens mod support to console owners, and it lets them fire two pistols at once. According to Gamereactor Norge, the patch is the centrepiece of the game's Edgerunners 2 update cycle and arrives without a new story campaign attached.
CD Projekt Red published the full patch notes on 21 October, a day ahead of release, after previewing the feature set during a REDstreams broadcast. A version for Nintendo Switch 2 is planned for later, though the studio has not given a date for it.
Why it matters
User-made content has been a PC privilege in big-budget games for as long as consoles have existed, and studios have generally accepted that split rather than fight it. Gamereactor Norge reports that CD Projekt Red is framing the new support as a first move toward modding that works the same way across platforms, which is a notable ambition for a AAA release.
The practical effect is that PlayStation and Xbox players can now browse and install community creations from inside the game, a feature the outlet describes as the larger half of the update even though the dual-wield skill has drawn more attention.
How the console modding works
The system runs through mod.io, and it covers PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S, per Gamereactor Norge. Players search for and install content without leaving the game.
That reach matters because console modding of this kind is uncommon at the top end of the market. Traditionally, user-generated content has stayed on PC, where players have direct access to game files. A curated, in-game route removes that barrier for console owners.
Dual wielding, and its cost
The flashier addition is Double Trouble, a skill in the Cool tree that unlocks at level 9 Cool for two attribute points. It applies only to Power pistols and revolvers; SMGs and melee weapons stay single-handed. Iconic weapons keep their abilities and effects when held in both hands.
There is a trade-off. At the first rank, each weapon takes a 37.5 percent damage penalty, which later ranks and four supporting perks in the same tree partly offset. Rank 2 adds Heywood Hurricane, which fires both guns together for one second with 50 percent wider bullet spread.
Modders moved faster than the studio
Within a day of launch, community creators had already pushed the system past its intended limits. Gamereactor Norge reports that mods extending dual wielding to shotguns, automatic rifles and sniper rifles appeared inside 24 hours, including Dual Wield Anything by E3roKK, Expanded Dual Wielding by JericoHellden and Independent Pistol Controls by Dederara.
All three rely on Cyber Engine Tweaks, a framework available only on PC. JericoHellden described the result as "janky and wildly overpowered," according to the outlet. The timing is a small irony: the update that brings mods to consoles was immediately expanded by PC-only tools.
What else is in the patch
The update takes its cues from the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 rather than adding a fresh narrative arc. It includes two side jobs, 12 Minor Arcana tarot cards, a themed photo mode pack, and the radio station HKGN 102.0 FM playing music from the series.
Players can also swap the look of cybernetic arms, covering Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and the Projectile Launch System, alongside new hairstyles and five outfits.
On the technical side, PC players get DLSS 4.5 with Multi Frame Generation at up to 6X, additional AMD FSR options, and improvements to ray tracing and PlayStation 5 Pro performance, Gamereactor Norge reports.
What to watch
The open question is the Switch 2 release, which has no announced date, and whether the console mod catalogue grows into something closer to the PC ecosystem. For now, the update is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
