The Basque-dubbed animated feature 'Superthings: Filma' arrives in cinemas across the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) this Friday, 23 October, according to Kulturklik. The release comes through ADI! Filmak Euskaraz, the programme previously known as Zinema Euskaraz, which this year adopted its new name as it entered a fresh phase of promoting cinema in the Basque language.

Kulturklik reports that the film is the nineteenth title to be released in 2026 under the initiative, which is driven by Zineuskadi to support the Basque audiovisual sector. Through the programme, the Basque Government's Department of Culture and Language Policy funds the dubbing of films aimed at children and young audiences and encourages the use of Euskera in cinemas.

Why it matters

The launch is the latest step in a long-running effort to give young Basque-speaking audiences films they can watch in their own language at the same time as other viewers. Dubbing family titles is one of the programme's core methods, and each release under the ADI! Filmak Euskaraz banner adds to the number of options available to children and teenagers in the region.

The rebranding from Zinema Euskaraz to ADI! Filmak Euskaraz marks a new stage for the scheme, which operates with public backing and works alongside the wider Basque film industry. According to Kulturklik, the initiative is intended both to strengthen the local audiovisual sector and to normalise the presence of Euskera on cinema screens.

A story that moves between two worlds

The film follows Mía, Kai and Finn, three friends in their sixth year of primary school. As Kulturklik describes it, the trio stumble upon a fragment of Kazoom, a substance that merges Normalópolis — their grey, orderly hometown — with Kaboom City, the chaotic universe of the Superthings, where everyday objects have come to life as superheroes and villains.

Their world is suddenly filled with powers, unlikely rivalries and adventures that spin out of control. Transformed into the Kazoom Kids, the friends must take on Mr. King, a villain set on seizing the power of the Kazoom. Stopping him will require them to rely on their friendship, their ingenuity and their courage — and to learn that together they are far stronger.

Where to see it

Kulturklik lists eight venues showing the film over the opening weekend: Golem Alhóndiga in Bilbao; SADE Cines in Donostia / San Sebastián; Cine Zugaza in Durango; Cines Niessen in Errenteria; Getxo Zinemak in Getxo; Golem La Morea in Pamplona; and Cines Florida and Cines Gorbeia, both in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The spread of screenings covers all three provinces of the CAV as well as Navarre, giving families in both urban and smaller towns a chance to catch the release locally.

A wider slate ahead

'Superthings: Filma' is not the only title coming through the programme in the months ahead. Kulturklik reports that further films will follow under ADI! Filmak Euskaraz, among them 'Gungo eta harpetar jokoak', 'Katu kapeladuna' and 'Charlie el super perro'.

The Superthings themselves are Spanish-made toys that have found success internationally, and the feature adaptation has drawn attention beyond the Basque-language circuit. Coverage of the film in other Spanish outlets has highlighted its fast pace and broad appeal, with RTVE.es quoting director Víctor Monigote describing it as a spectacular film with a brisk rhythm, while Heraldo and El Independiente have both noted the global reach of the toy line behind the story. Those characterisations come from the respective outlets and are not claims made by the film's Basque distributor.

For families in the CAV and Navarre, the practical effect is straightforward: from Friday, a Basque-language version of a family adventure built on a well-known toy brand will be on screens in eight cinemas. The programme's organisers will be watching how it performs as they prepare the next titles on the slate.

Viewers can check local listings for showtimes at the venues named by Kulturklik, and further ADI! Filmak Euskaraz releases are expected in the coming months.
