Apple has begun distributing the release candidate build of iOS 27.2 to developers and public beta testers, according to BigGo ファイナンス. The build, numbered 24B115, is expected to reach all users shortly after Apple's hardware event on October 28, where new Macs and a refreshed iPad Mini are anticipated.
The release candidate arrives alongside matching updates for iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, tvOS, HomePod and visionOS. For testers moving up from the fourth beta, the download runs to roughly 10GB.
Why it matters
This is a maintenance release rather than a showcase, and its incremental character suggests Apple is holding bigger announcements for the hardware event later this month. The most commercially significant element may be the least visible: a modem firmware update for the iPhone 18 lineup aimed at improving connection stability and performance in weak-signal conditions. Connectivity complaints have weighed on recent iPhone cycles, and a software-driven fix would address them without a hardware revision.
Beta testers report that Geekbench scores improved slightly over the previous build, while battery endurance is roughly level with earlier iOS 27 builds, according to BigGo ファイナンス.
What changes across the six apps
Messages gains "suggested actions," which surface prompts beneath a conversation and offer to create calendar events or reminders, or save content to Notes. The feature was tested during the summer beta cycle but did not ship in the public release; it returns now with a settings toggle that lets users narrow which kinds of suggestions appear.
FaceTime's dual capture, which streams the front and rear cameras at the same time, now works in group calls. On iPhone 17 and later models, tapping the standard camera switch button delivers both feeds by default.
The TV app picks up profiles on iPhone and iPad, a capability previously confined to tvOS. A profile selection screen appears at launch and can be switched off, a useful option for households sharing a single device.
In smart home control, the Home app adds two features for compatible locks. "Lock after closing" sets a delay measured from when the door shuts rather than when it is unlocked, while an "open door" setting sends an alert if a door stays open beyond a configured time. The Home app also adds lock controls for HomePod to prevent accidental activation, and support for surround sound using four HomePods paired with an Apple TV 4K.
Apple Podcasts splits the Up Next queue on its Home tab into two lists: "New Episodes," limited to the latest releases from shows the user follows, and "Continue Playing," which gathers episodes left partway through. The Games app's Home tab will now surface recently downloaded titles that have not been played, and achievement and leaderboard tracking has been reworked.
Siri's language support also expands in this release, according to BigGo ファイナンス.
Health app pushed back, known bugs remain
The redesigned Health app, withdrawn during the fourth beta, is not part of 27.2. Apple has said work continues and now points to iOS 27.3, with a beta expected in early November and a public release before the end of the year.
That delay carries more strategic weight than its absence might suggest. Health has become a central pillar of Apple's wearables and subscription strategy, and pushing a flagship redesign to 27.3 compresses the runway before the next major iOS cycle. Developers building on HealthKit face a longer stretch of uncertainty over how the app presents their data.
Testers have also flagged two known issues that remain unresolved: failures in some Shortcuts automations, and the possibility that personalized health summaries do not generate as intended.
Apple has not ruled out issuing a second release candidate before the public launch, depending on feedback from developers and testers. The company has not commented publicly on the timing of the final build.
Several of the app-level additions read as catch-up moves, bringing the iPhone closer to features already standard on rival streaming platforms, while the Home app's lock automations respond to a smart home market where Apple has trailed competitors on automation depth. For investors, the release alone offers little to move the stock; the more telling signal will come on October 28, when the hardware lineup and the rollout schedule for the finished 27.2 together set the tone for the holiday quarter.
