The release is one of several player rankings circulating ahead of the coming season. NHL.com has published NHL Network's top players in the 20-11 range, a group that includes Auston Matthews, Sidney Crosby and Connor Hellebuyck, according to NHL.com. TSN, meanwhile, placed Connor McDavid first on its Top 50 Players ranking for a tenth consecutive year, TSN reports. TSN also published a companion piece asking which player was the biggest omission from its list, and noted that Cole Caufield and Lane Hutson featured in the No. 30-21 range of its rankings, which TSN framed as a reflection of the Montreal Canadiens' success.
Each outlet uses its own panel and criteria, so the three lists are not directly comparable. The Sportsnet Insiders' ranking is being released in segments rather than all at once, with the 50-41 group arriving first.
What to watch next: Sportsnet is expected to continue the countdown with the remaining tiers of its 2026-27 list, while the differences between the Sportsnet, TSN and NHL Network rankings will become clearer once all three are complete.
